This isn't just a concert; it's a celebration of Delta blues heritage, happening at the perfect place: the Museum of the Mississippi Delta (1608 Highway 82 W). Doors open at 6:30 PM, music starts at 7:00 PM. And yes, it's FREE and ALL AGES!
Why You Can't Miss Super Chikan
You might recognize James "Super Chikan" Johnson from his feature on CBS's 60 Minutes special "The State of the Blues" or his captivating full-length documentary, Super Chikan: A Life in Blues. A true Mississippi icon, Super Chikan is renowned for his powerful vocals, masterful guitar work, infectious stage presence, and legendary storytelling. But the magic doesn't stop there! This unique event will feature an exclusive interview with the man himself, conducted by our own Scott Barretta (host of the beloved Highway 61 radio show). And prepare to be amazed as Super Chikan showcases his incredible, homemade "chikantar" instruments – a true testament to his creativity and deep connection to the blues tradition. This is a rare and intimate glimpse into the world of a living legend.
Get There Early for Ryan Lee Crosby!
Kicking off the night is the immensely talented Ryan Lee Crosby. An apprentice under the legendary Bentonia bluesman Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, Crosby is forging his own unique path. We caught his mesmerizing set at the Juke Joint Festival, and trust us, you want to be settled in before he starts. Accompanied by percussionist Grant Smith on a massive calabash drum, Crosby crafts a sound that's both deeply rooted and utterly contemporary. As Lauren Daley from WBUR/NPR perfectly captured:
