Season 4 Finale: A Free Cinco de Mayo Fiesta with Los Preeminentes!
The stars have officially aligned. It’s Cinco de Mayo, it’s Taco Tuesday, and we are beyond thrilled to wrap up the Hush Puppy Music Co-op’s Spring 2026 Concert Series with a free, all-ages community celebration unlike any we’ve ever hosted.
On Tuesday, May 5th, doors open at 6:30 pm, and the music starts at 7:00 pm, we’re turning our season finale over to the vibrant sounds of norteño music, brought to you by a talented family band of locals from right here in the Greenwood area—Los Preeminentes.
And the best part? It’s completely free for everyone! So come hungry, bring your dancing shoes, and get ready for a night of great food, culture, and music.
About the Band & The Music: Los Preeminentes
This concert is a celebration of community and heritage on the final night of Season 4. Los Preeminentes is a true family affair. The relatives have been making music together for six years and officially formed the band two years ago. Under the leadership of bandleader and lead singer Margarito Zuniga, they will be treating us to the authentic sounds of norteño (or norteña) music.
So, what exactly is norteño music? It’s a vibrant, rhythmic tradition that originated in northern Mexico and is built around some of the most joyful sounds you’ll ever hear. As Zuniga explains, “It is music that derived from the northern parts of Mexico. All the music is meant to be danced (to), and it is all performed in Spanish.”
The genre is famous for its characteristic instruments, which you’ll see on full display Tuesday night: the soulful squeezebox sound of the button accordion and the rhythmic, punchy strum of the bajo sexto (a 12-string guitar-like instrument), backed by drums and bass. It’s music for celebration, storytelling, and most definitely for dancing—and Los Preeminentes are the perfect local band to bring this rich tradition to life right here in the Mississippi Delta.

Plan Your Evening: Dinner & Dancing
We’re partnering with our friends at San Miguel Arcangel, a local, family-owned restaurant, to make this finale a true community gathering. This is what makes Hush Puppy special.
Come for Dinner: Food and drinks will be served before and throughout the concert. Their full menu of authentic Mexican cuisine—including famous tacos and nacho salads—will be available, making for a perfect Tuesday night dinner out.
Stay for Music & Dancing: After you’ve grabbed a table and enjoyed a great meal, the space will be cleared to create an open dance floor. Don’t worry if you’re not an expert—just move to the joyful, driving beat.
Parking: Plenty of parking is available in the restaurant’s own lot, making it easy for families and groups.
Let’s Celebrate Our Community
This final show of our spring season is a special one on multiple levels. It was made possible in part by a generous grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. It also fulfills our goal of hosting one free community show each season and finally featuring a Spanish-language band, giving a musical voice to more of our neighbors.
As Hush Puppy organizer Dan Splaingard told the Greenwood Commonwealth, "We have a fair amount of Spanish speakers in the area, and it’s an interesting style of music that we haven’t featured yet. I’m looking forward to hearing from a different style of music in a community setting."
And he’s right. This is exactly what Hush Puppy is all about—bringing people together from across our community to celebrate the power of live music.
