A Night of Mom-Pop Meets Unconventional Harmony: Call Me Spinster & Alva Leigh at Hush Puppy

There are evenings that simply feel different. The kind where two distinct artistic voices, each compelling on their own, come together to create something unexpectedly magical. On Tuesday, April 14, Hush Puppy Music Coop presents exactly that kind of night when Alva Leigh and Call Me Spinster share the stage at Old City Hall in downtown Greenwood.

This one-night-only lineup brings two Chattanooga-based acts to the Mississippi Delta, and it promises to be a showcase of songwriting depth, fearless creativity, and the kind of live energy that makes you glad you showed up.

Alva Leigh: The Art of “Mom-Pop”

Self-described as “mom-pop,” Alva Leigh brings decades of musical experience and a deeply personal new album, Wilderness, to the Hush Puppy stage. A singer/songwriter born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she returned to the South after a successful run in the UK with her critically acclaimed Americana band Lewis & Leigh.

Now based in Tennessee, her latest work explores a paradox familiar to many: how not to disappear into caretaking. The result is an album that is equal parts playful, dreamy, vulnerable, and cathartic. Her performances have drawn comparisons to artists like Regina Spektor and The Shins, blending pop sensibility with raw, honest storytelling.

If you’ve seen her perform, you know she brings a magnetic presence. If you haven’t, April 14 is your chance to discover a Mississippi-connected artist whose work is earning well-deserved attention.

Call Me Spinster: Nothing Ordinary

The closer you look at Call Me Spinster, the harder it is to find anything predictable. A trio of sisters from Chattanooga, Tennessee, their sound defies easy categorization. They blend pristine vocal harmonies with unorthodox instruments, slipping between old-timey traditions and modern pop fun without ever landing where you expect.

Their energy is infectious, their arrangements surprising, and their stage presence marked by streaks of self-aware humor. Whether they’re picking up unusual instruments or weaving harmonies that feel both timeless and fresh, Call Me Spinster delivers a live experience that lingers.

A Double Feature Worth the Trip

This is the rare double bill where both artists complement and contrast in the best possible way. Alva Leigh’s introspective, hook-driven songcraft meets Call Me Spinster’s boundary-pushing, harmony-rich energy. Together, they offer an evening that showcases the breadth of what’s happening in the Chattanooga music scene—brought straight to Greenwood.
