Bring the Whole Family: Grammy Winner Dom Flemons Plays Greenwood
There are concerts you attend. And then there are concerts you experience—the kind that linger in your memory, spark conversations on the drive home, and leave even the youngest audience members wide-eyed with wonder.
On Thursday, March 19, 2026, Hush Puppy Music Coop is proud to present exactly that kind of evening when Grammy award-winning musician, historian, and multi-instrumentalist Dom Flemons takes the stage at the Museum of the Mississippi Delta.
And here's the best part: this show is for everyone. From seasoned blues enthusiasts to curious young minds, all ages are welcome, and children are especially encouraged to attend with their parents.
A Living History Lesson, Disguised as a Concert
If you've never seen Dom Flemons perform, here's what you need to know: he doesn't just play music—he inhabits it. As a founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and now a celebrated solo artist known as "The American Songster," Dom has dedicated his career to preserving and celebrating the rich tapestry of American roots music.
His instrument collection alone tells the story. Throughout the evening, he'll likely pick up the banjo, guitar, harmonica, jug, percussion, quills, fife, and rhythm bones. Yes, rhythm bones. (If you don't know what those are, just wait until you see them—and hear them—in action.)
For children, this is something magical: watching one person transform a stage full of unfamiliar instruments into living, breathing music. It's a chance to see that music isn't just something that comes from speakers or screens. It's made by human hands, by breath, by imagination.
Why Bring the Kids?
Dom's commitment to education and young audiences is well-documented. Through his work with the P.I.C.K. (Pouring Into the Culture of Kids) Music Education Program, Dom has demonstrated his dedication to sharing traditional music with the next generation. As noted in his program description, Dom Flemings uses music to "impact young students" and shares with them "the importance of musical roots."
This is exactly what makes the March 19 show so special. Your children may never hear another living musician play the quills. They may never see a fife played up close. They may never witness one person summon an entire century of American music from a collection of seemingly simple instruments.
This is their chance.
A Perfect Family Evening Out
The evening is designed with families in mind:

What the Critics Say
Don't just take our word for it. Here's what the Music Maker Foundation had to say about Dom Flemons:
"He is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, actor, music scholar, and historian. He is considered an expert player on the banjo, guitar, harmonica, jug, percussion, quills, fife, and rhythm bones. In fact, there might be no one alive who could teach you more about the vast sweep of American music than Dom Flemons."
No one alive. Think about that for a moment. And then think about sharing that experience with your children.
