Coffee Shop Folk Comes to Greenwood: Remi Goode + Abels & Mosley

Coffee shop folk comes to Greenwood on Tuesday, November 17. There is something magical about live music in an intimate setting—the acoustics are warm, and the barrier between the artist and the audience practically disappears. We are thrilled to bring that exact magic to Zoe Coffee (319 Howard St.) with an incredible "duo of duos": Remi Goode + Abels & Mosley.

A double-exposure portrait of indie-folk musician Remi Goode standing in a sunlit grassy field, creating a dreamy, cinematic effect.

Classical guitarist turned indie-folk songwriter Remi Goode performs at Zoe Coffee on Tuesday, November 17.

The Headliner: Remi Goode

Remi Goode is a trained classical guitarist and choral singer who has seamlessly transitioned into the world of alternative folk songwriting. Performing as a duo with her partner Gabe Lehrer, their two instruments interlock and entwine into unique shapes that are at times airily buoyant and always beautiful to witness.

With her music drawing from such luminaries as Suzanne Vega and Kathleen Edwards, Goode creates her own version of modern-day American roots music. It’s intimate one minute and cinematic the next.

Don't just take our word for it. The team at NPR's Tiny Desk Contest said: "The opening refrain in Remi Goode’s ‘Return to Sender’ is so catchy that we can’t stop humming it around the office." Magnet Magazine added: "Goode has an unfiltered confessional style... You get the sense that Goode is willing to go anywhere for the sake of the song."

This is a young artist finding her form and creating lush, beautiful songs. The listening-room treatment of Zoe Coffee is the perfect place to witness it.

Watch Remi Goode perform "Return to Sender," the song NPR's Tiny Desk team called so catchy they "couldn't stop humming it around the office."

A split-screen portrait of musicians Cecil Abels and Alanna Mosley. Abels, on the left, plays an acoustic guitar on a city street. Mosley, on the right, holds a sunburst acoustic guitar in a sunlit field.

Two distinct musical paths converging for one special night. Cecil Abels (New England by way of Holmes County) and Alanna Mosley (Carrollton, MS) open the show on Nov 17.

The Opener: A Musical Homecoming

The night opens with a very special collaboration: Abels & Mosley.

Cecil Abels (aka "Mr. Sippy") was born into a family of singers and stringband players in Holmes County. After a career in the Navy and years of touring Europe and winning awards with his bluegrass bands in New England, he is returning to the Delta.

He’s reuniting with Carrollton native Alanna Mosley, a powerhouse singer-songwriter and winner of the 2016 Jimmie Rodgers Songwriting Competition. Alanna is an unstoppable jukebox of great music, blending Americana and roots while blurring genre lines.

The two met years ago at the old Carroll County Market, where a musical friendship was forged over hours of jamming. Now, they bring their shared roots and pure love of entertaining to the Hush Puppy stage for a set of old favorites and new songs you won't want to miss.

Watch Cecil Abels (Mr. Sippy) perform "Ridin' The Rails," a perfect example of the stringband and bluegrass heritage he brings back to the Delta.

Watch Alanna Mosley perform a stunning, stripped-back cover of Cam's "Burning House."
